Who Can Apply to the Science Co-operative Education program?
Students who meet all of the following criteria can apply to Science Co-op program:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (except for Microbiology/Immunology that requires
a GPA of 3.3) and enrolled in a 20 credit degree program.
- Ffulfilled the academic requirements of your science department (See
department in undergraduate calendar)
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Are, or will be switching into, a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science discipline with the Co-op option.
- Completed one year of university (two years in some departments)
- Approval by your Co-op Academic Advisor and the Science Co-op Office
- Must be proficient in oral and written English
- If accepted, must register and attend mandatory Science Co-op
Seminars (SCIE 2800) in the fall term of year accepted

- NOTE: Some Co-op programs have limited enrollment. Therefore, meeting all criteria above does not guarantee automatic enrollment.
When Do You Apply to the Science Co-op Program? What is the Deadline to Apply?
Although students are encouraged to apply to Science Co-op before the end of their first year of study, students apply to join Science Co-op before their second year of study begins (except for Chemistry Co-op, where students can also apply before their third year of study). Applications must be received by the last business day on or before August 1st. If accepted into the Science Co-op program, students are required to register for, and attend, the Science Co-op Seminar Series (SCIE 2800.00) in the fall term of the year they join. Students will be notified in late August if they have been accepted into the program.
NOTE 1 : Students applying to Science Co-op are strongly encouraged to speak with the Co-op Academic Advisor, in the discipline of their choice, before May if possible. (Except for Marine Biology Co-op applicants, who apply and wait to hear back from the advisor regarding approval)

How To Apply : (read ALL bulleted instructions below carefully first before proceeding )
For all disciplines: Print off, complete and sign the following
two forms: If using the pdf forms, you must have adobe reader on your computer or download it. If you have any problems downloading these forms, please email us at sciencecoop@dal.ca
1) The Science Co-op Application Form
(pdf format or Word Template format) requires the signature of your Co-op Academic Advisor for all disciplines
2) Co-operative Education Agreement (in pdf format)
- Make an appointment to speak with the Academic Co-op Advisor, for your discipline choice, and discuss your application, work term sequence, and to have your application signed by the advisor. NOTE: If possible, it is strongly recommended to do this before May.
- After you have fully completed and read the two above forms, they are to be returned to the Science Co-op office, by your advisor or yourself, for final approval.
- NOTE: If admitted in the Science Co-op program, all Science Co-op students are required to attend the Science Co-op Seminar Series.
- After approvals have been made by your Co-op Academic Advisor, forms are then sent to the Science Co-op office for final approval.
- Students will be notified in late August regarding acceptance into the program. (students not accepted will be contacted as well)
